Yoshitomo Nara at Philips de Pury & Company Contemporary Art auction

It's always interesting to have a browse at upcoming auctions and this Phillips de Pury & Company Contemporary Art auction in New York on 14 May has some interesting lots, especially this Yoshitomo Nara Untitled, 2004 piece.

Estimated at $150,000-250,000 it's not cheap so you might need to bank on a lottery win to afford this acrylic and pastel on paper sized at 135.3 x 119.4 cm.

There are also some interesting pieces by Keith Haring and also a Banksy up for grabs, and all lots are available to browse online.

Born in the Streets - Graffiti exhibition and catalogue

If you are in Paris or planning a trip why not check out the Born in the Streets - Graffiti exhibition at the Foundation Cartier?

Featuring work by a number of artists who began their careers on the streets such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring alongside pieces by Futura and Fab Five Freddy. You can find full details on the exhibition on the Foundation Cartier website.

However if you can't make the show which runs until November you can also buy the catalogue which takes you through the history and evolution of graffiti from 70s New York to the established cultural influence it is today. It can be yours for £41.67.

Bloomsbury Auctions Modern & Contemporary print sale

I like a good browse through an auction catalogue and this Modern & Contemporary print sale at Bloomsbury Auctions that takes place this Thursday 25 June didn't disappoint with 618 lots to view.

There is a good range of pieces available and some of my particular favourites including work by Robin Denny, Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Victor Pasmore, David Hockney, Eduardo Paolozzi and the piece above by Colin Self.

This print called Cat, Power and Beauty No.1 is a silkscreen printed in 1968 and is signed, titled and dated in white ink and numbered 4/75. It is sized at 66 x 101cm and is estimated at £300 - £500.

Derek Boshier artwork available at Private Art Auctions

This Derek Boshier work, Untitled, 1965, features in an auction catalogue for new web-based auction house Private Art Auctions. As a fan of Boshier's work it really caught my eye.

Private Art Auctions want to provide cost effective buying and selling on their online platform, which basically consists of a catalogue of works available from private sellers but auctioned via them through a sealed bidding process. The key element of the sale is that they won't post sales results, so privacy is maintained for the seller and buyer.

As it is private you have sign up to view the catalogue and bid. The catalogue consists of a pdf, so I'm hoping they update their site so that you can browse through the lots online by the next auction.

Their first catalogue covers a great range of work from Modern British Art, Modern European, Post-War and Contemporary Art and even Urban Art. All the estimates seem realistic in the current climate and could be your chance to bag yourself a bargain.

Other work that might tempt me to bid would be prints including an artist proof of Richard Hamilton's Just what is it that made yesterday's homes so different, so appealing, Damien Hirst's The Soul on Jacob's Ladder, D*Face US Dollar, and a Nick Walker V for Vandal.

The Boshier piece produced in 1965 is crayon on paper and sized at 57.15 x 78.74cm. It is signed and dated in pencil on the lower right, and estimated at £600-800, with provenance from Robert Fraser Gallery. Get your bid in by midnight Friday 17 April to get your hands on this piece of Pop art.

Sonic Youth Etc Sensational Fix

If you are a fan of Sonic Youth and kept track of their collaborations with various visual artists, film makers, designers and musicians, you'll love the Sensational Fix catalogue that accompanies their exhibition.

The exhibition was initiated and curated by freelance curator Roland Groenenboom in collaboration with the band, and focuses around the multidisciplinary output of Sonic Youth and related works by other artists.

It provides an alternative history of contemporary culture and questions the division between 'high art' and 'low art', featuring themes such as teenage rebellion, adolescent wanderlust, gender, fame, fashion, sexuality, and religion.

Their album covers, inner sleeves and inlays have featured artists such as James Welling, Richard Kern, Dan Graham, Gerhard Richter, Raymond Pettibon, Mike Kelley, William S. Burroughs, Savage Pencil, Richard Prince, Christopher Wool, and Jeff Wall, so the catalogue is a great way to view their creative output. As a bonus you also get a 7 inch record with Steve Schelley and Thurston Moore.

You can currently catch the exhibition at Kunsthalle Dusseldorf where it opens on January 30th, but if you can't wait until then or can't make it to Germany why not buy the catalogue which is priced at £58.81 from Colette.
