Matthew Houlding Sons of Pioneers exhibition

Matthew-houlding

As fans of modernist architecture we really like the look of Matthew Holding's work in the Sons of Pioneers exhibition at the Ceri Hand Gallery in Liverpool.

The sculptures and collages on view are a homage to modern architecture and the utopian ideals of David Hockney's A Bigger Splash painting. They are made with a range of materials including cardboard boxes, garden fencing, and kitchen worktops which are used to recreate the geometry and intersecting planes that work so well on modern buildings.

They all look rather like the type of house I'd like to live in if I could afford it. The sculpture featured here is NKB Bearings, and is a mixed media piece sized at 60 x 60 x 35 cm.

The exhibition runs until the 22 May so you still have chance to get to Liverpool to see them in the flesh.
