20th Century British Art auction at Christie's
I always like to have a browse through forthcoming auction sales and was interested to find this Allen Jones piece Black/Soft Aroma at the 20th Century British Art auction at Christie's on 21 May in London.
The auction features interesting work from the likes of Lynn Chadwick, Patrick Heron, and Patrick Caulfield, but it is this canvas by Allen that interested me most.
It is two joined canvases and dates from 1973. It comes from a projected series of paintings called Look/touch/sniff but only this and another work called Red Aroma. The piece ha been widely exhibited and as you would expect this comes at a price, with the estimate being £30,000 to £50,000.

Auctions can be a good place to start in your pursuit of artwork. If you’re a cruiser, almost every large ship has an “at sea” auction opportunity to buy a less expensive piece for a few hundred dollars or so. Don’t forget these are unframed prices, so be prepared to spend another hundred for that expense.
